Helping Our Youngest Learners Thrive
Grants in Action is an ongoing series highlighting the innovative classroom projects made possible through the SCUC Education Foundation's Innovation Grants. Together, we're investing in innovative classrooms, empowering educators, and creating opportunities for every student to succeed. Thank you for being part of the impact.
Made possible through an SCUC Education Foundation Innovation Grant, this project is helping create a classroom where every student feels supported, understood, and ready to learn.
Every SCUC Education Foundation Innovation Grant represents an investment in our students, educators, and innovative classrooms. This month's Grants in Action spotlight takes us to Watts Elementary, where a new Calming Corner/Safe Space is helping Pre-K students develop essential social-emotional skills.
Thanks to this grant, students now have a dedicated space to recognize their emotions, practice calming strategies, and return to learning with confidence. By learning these skills at an early age, students are building a foundation that will support them both inside and outside the classroom for years to come.
"Our Pre-K students now have a calming corner where they can learn to manage big feelings in a safe and supportive way. Students are practicing how to identify emotions, use calming strategies, and return ready to learn—skills that will support them for a lifetime."
— Kimberly Walker Dennis, Pre-K Teacher, Watts Elementary
This is the impact of community support in action. Because of our generous donors and partners, SCUC educators can bring innovative ideas to life, creating meaningful learning experiences that help every student succeed.
Thank you for helping us continue to support students, celebrate educators, and strengthen our community.
