Schertz-Cibolo-Universal City ISD (SCUC ISD) has launched an expanded Community Advisory Committee (CAC) to guide the district’s long-range facilities planning. Meeting bi-weekly through the fall, the CAC will review data, tour facilities, and ultimately make a recommendation to the Board of Trustees in December on a potential bond referendum in May 2026.
Schertz-Cibolo-Universal City ISD held the first meeting of its expanded CAC to kick off the district’s comprehensive facilities planning initiative. While the CAC has been in existence for many years, its membership was recently broadened to bring in additional perspectives as the district considers a potential bond referendum. The committee now represents a wide range of voices from across the community, including parents, educators, business owners, and civic leaders.
Superintendent of Schools Paige Meloni welcomed the group and expressed her appreciation for their commitment to shaping the future of SCUC schools.
“It’s a process to pull people together and make an impact for the future,” Meloni said.
Maggie Titterington, President of The Chamber and an original CAC member when it was founded in 2013, praised the clarity of the discussion.
“They’ve made it very concise of why, and the cost,” she said. “They’ve already answered the questions before we’ve asked them.”
During the meeting, CAC members were introduced to SCUC’s demographics, school finance, and the planning timeline.
Joanne Parker, parent of a Jordan Intermediate student, said the work ahead is about community support.
“It’s a great step to see what we can do for our schools. How can we give back to our community?”
Justin Archibold, a Steele High School parent, SCUC teacher’s spouse, and band booster, noted the importance of two-way communication.
“We’re going to be hearing of the district's challenges when it comes to facilities, equipment and personnel. We’ll be able to communicate that to the community.”
This was the first in a series of bi-weekly meetings where members will continue their work through facility tours, needs assessments, and group deliberations. The CAC is expected to make a final recommendation to the SCUC Board of Trustees in December.
