Samuel Clemens High School art teacher Amanda Aguilar has been named the Texas VFW High School Teacher of the Year, earning statewide recognition for her commitment to student success, citizenship, and leadership.
Representing VFW Post 4676 and District 20, Aguilar was selected for her ability to inspire students both inside and outside the classroom. Under her guidance, students consistently excel in VFW art competitions, creating meaningful works that reflect patriotism, service, and community values.
Beyond the awards, Aguilar is known for creating a welcoming space where every student feels supported. In a community with deep military roots, her classroom serves as a place of stability and encouragement for students navigating change, deployment, and transition.
Whether working with an aspiring artist or a student taking art to fulfill a graduation requirement, Aguilar holds every student to high expectations while providing the support they need to succeed.
