SCUC ISD Board approves appointment process for Place 4 vacancy. Microphones and empty chairs appear in the background.

The SCUC ISD Board of Trustees approved an appointment process to fill the Place 4 vacancy during a Called Board Meeting on Thursday, September 3, 2026. The Board also formally accepted the resignation of Place 4 Trustee Matthew Short.

State law allows the remaining trustees to appoint a qualified individual to temporarily fill a vacancy on the Board. SCUC ISD last followed this process in 2018 after Trustee John Corrieu resigned. Current Board President Letticia Sever was appointed to fill that vacancy.

The individual appointed to Place 4 will serve until the November 2027 Board election, when Places 1, 2 and 3 are regularly scheduled to appear on the ballot. To continue serving, the appointee must run for Place 4 in that election and, if elected, will complete the remainder of the current term through 2029. The individual may then choose to run for a full 4-year term in 2029.
