SCUC Board Trustees approved the recommendation to appoint Dr. Sam Dockery as principal of Cibolo Valley Elementary School for the 2026-2027 school year at the regular board meeting held on May 21, 2026.
Dr. Dockery brings more than 20 years of experience in public education and a strong commitment to creating safe, inclusive, and student-centered learning environments where all students are empowered to succeed academically, socially, and emotionally.
Throughout his career, he has served in a variety of instructional and leadership roles, including Instructional Facilitator at a Disciplinary Alternative Education Center, general education teacher, special education teacher, districtwide Behavior Specialist, Assistant Principal, Associate Principal, and High School Principal.
In a letter to families and staff, Dr. Dockery shared his excitement about joining the Cibolo Valley Elementary community, writing, “Returning to Texas truly feels like coming home, and I could not be more excited to begin this next chapter with all of you.” Dr. Dockery has served as the principal of Bandon High School in Bandon, Oregon, since 2024.
Dr. Dockery also emphasized the importance of collaboration and relationships in building strong school communities, stating, “I firmly believe that strong schools are built through collaboration, relationships, and a shared commitment to students.”
Dr. Dockery holds a Bachelor of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies with a minor in the Science of Teaching Reading, a Master of Arts in Teaching with a focus on Science and Mathematics Education, and a Doctor of Philosophy in Education with an emphasis in Organizational Leadership and School Leadership.
