DEIC Committee Meeting on September 9, 2026

SCUC ISD’s District Education Improvement Committee (DEIC) kicked off its work for the 2026–27 school year in September, bringing together employees, parents, business representatives and community members to provide input on district priorities.

DEIC advises the Board of Trustees in establishing and reviewing the District Improvement Plan, educational goals, performance objectives and major classroom instructional programs.

A Look at Class Sizes

One of the committee’s first updates focused on class sizes across the district.

Under SCUC ISD’s District of Innovation Plan, the district is exempt from the formal state waiver process for class sizes. However, DEIC previously requested that the district continue reporting class-size information to the committee and Board of Trustees.

For 2026–27, the report identified four elementary classrooms exceeding district staffing guidelines. At the intermediate level, the report showed 12 classes at Jordan Intermediate, four at Schlather Intermediate and six at Wilder Intermediate exceeding district guidelines.

Continuing to review these numbers gives committee members a look at how enrollment and staffing decisions are affecting classrooms across SCUC ISD.

Investing in Staff Learning

DEIC members also reviewed the district’s 2026–27 Professional Development Plan, which serves as a roadmap for how SCUC ISD invests in the continued growth and support of staff.

The plan is designed to align professional learning with district priorities, respond to student and staff needs, support professional growth and create consistent practices across the district.

Committee members were asked to review the plan through three lenses: what they were glad to see, what questions they had and what they recommended the district consider.

Bringing Different Perspectives to District Planning

DEIC includes campus and district employees as well as parents, business representatives and community representatives. Members serve two-year terms.

Throughout the year, the committee will participate in work that includes reviewing the District Improvement Plan, developing recommendations for the instructional calendar, reviewing state and federal requirements and receiving updates on district initiatives.

The committee’s next meeting is October 7 at 4:45 p.m. at the Marion Dolford Learning Center.
