SCUC ISD Dyslexia Parent Night

SCUC ISD enjoyed an outstanding turnout of 55 families for its Dyslexia Parent Night, hosted at the Marion Dolford Learning Center on October 28, 2025. In observance of Dyslexia Awareness Month, and united by a commitment to understanding and supporting students, the evening provided a focused workshop on the district’s comprehensive dyslexia intervention programs. It featured hands-on activities where parents experienced key reading and spelling strategies employed by teachers. In addition, guided simulations also illuminated the daily challenges brought about by dyslexia - helping nurture empathy and a deeper understanding of its impact on learning and life.

Heartfelt thanks go to the SCUC Dyslexia Providers for leading simulations and sharing instructional resources, the Department of Special Education for supplying materials and warmly welcoming families and the Byron P. Steele High School Culinary Arts students for serving delicious refreshments. Meanwhile, the Schertz Public Library provided support systems, including reading resources the community has access to that allows for families to read together on a variety of different skill levels. ,A special nod to Superintendent Maloni for bravely tackling a challenging simulation—your participation inspired those in attendance.

This event highlighted and strengthened the vital collaboration between home and school, reinforcing the support systems within SCUC to ensure every student thrives. By blending expert-led experiences with community resources, the district continues to build upon the strong, lasting connections that empower families and educators alike.
