At its meeting on Monday, August 17, the SCUC Board of Trustees voted to call a local operations funding election or Voter-Approval Tax Rate Election (VATRE) for Tuesday, November 3, 2026.
If approved by voters, this proposition would generate approximately $15 million in additional, ongoing revenue each year to fund SCUC ISD employee pay and student programs, including preserving fine arts, CTE and athletics programs, maintaining class sizes, and recruiting and retaining teachers and staff.
This proposition would add 12 cents per $100 of taxable property value to the district’s annual operations tax rate. The average home value in SCUC ISD is $317,335. After exemptions, the average taxable value is $177,335. Therefore, the estimated impact would be approximately $18 per month for an average homeowner.
Homeowners who qualify for an age 65 or older residence homestead tax ceiling would not see an increase in their frozen SCUC ISD tax amount because of the VATRE unless significant improvements are made to the homestead.
The VATRE would support the district’s day-to-day operating budget and would not create new debt. It is separate from the May 2026 bond election, which provides funding for capital projects involving facilities, transportation and technology.
Election Day: November 3, 2026
Early Voting: October 19–30, 2026
Last Day to Register to Vote: October 5, 2026
More detailed information about the local operations funding election, SCUC ISD’s financial position, and the potential impact of the election will be shared in the coming weeks, including a dedicated website.
