It takes some serious courage to step in front of a camera, speak live, and know that hundreds of your classmates, teachers, and families are watching. Our student announcements crew is taking on that challenge every morning, and they’re doing a great job!

There’s something special about students hearing important messages from their peers. It makes our announcements more personal, engaging, and connected to our Tiger community. 🐯

And for our student announcers, this is about much more than reading a script. They’re building confidence, communication skills, responsibility, and leadership every time they step in front of that camera.

Students may have the day off, but the learning never stops at Cibolo Valley Elementary! 🐯📚
Today, our teachers are learning together through backward planning—starting with the end goal: What do we want our students to know and be able to do?

From there, teachers identify how they will know students have mastered the learning and intentionally plan the instruction, practice, and experiences that will get them there.

Backward planning helps ensure that what we teach, how we teach it, and how we measure learning are all aligned to the standards and the outcomes we want for our students. It keeps our instruction purposeful and helps us make the most of every minute we have with our Tigers.

Our students may be out today, but our teachers are putting in the work to make tomorrow’s learning even stronger.

🔥 Learning About Fire Safety! 🚒

Today, we had some very special visitors from the Cibolo Fire Department! Our Tigers had the opportunity to meet with local firefighters and learn important fire safety tips, including what to do in an emergency, how to stay safe, and why fire safety matters.

These lessons are so important because knowing what to do before an emergency happens can help keep our students, families, and community safe. We are so grateful to our Cibolo firefighters for taking the time to educate, encourage, and connect with our Tigers!

What better way to celebrate our grandparents than with a parade around campus! This morning, our Tigers had the special opportunity to celebrate, smile, wave, and show some love to some of the most important people in their lives. 🎉👵👴 Grandparents play such an important role in the lives of children—and that impact extends into education. They share stories, traditions, encouragement, wisdom, and a belief in the importance of learning. They remind our students that they are part of something bigger than themselves and that the lessons they learn today can shape their tomorrow. Thank you to all of our CVE grandparents for being part of our Tiger family and for helping our students grow, achieve, and thrive! Happy Grandparents Day! 🐯❤️

📚✨ The CVE Book Fair is coming soon! We’re excited to fill our school with books, smiles, and a love of reading. But an amazing Book Fair doesn’t happen without amazing volunteers, like these ladies who stayed late on a Friday so our students can have the best experience starting Monday!

➕🐯 Math is better when you can move, collaborate, and have a little fun! Mrs. Dierlam’s 2nd graders were busy learning about standard and expanded form today—and they weren’t sitting still to do it! Students worked in groups, moved around the room, talked through their thinking, and worked together to complete their math tasks. They were learning from each other while building a stronger understanding of place value. When students are moving, talking, collaborating, and thinking, you know the learning is happening! ❤️📚 Way to go, Mrs. Dierlam and our second grade Tigers! 🐯

Mrs. Wicker modeled that perfectly by sitting on the floor alongside a student and working through the learning together. She didn’t ask the student to come up to where she was. She went to where the student was.

That’s good teaching.

Meeting students where they are means recognizing that every learner has different needs, strengths, experiences, and starting points. Great teachers adjust their approach, their position, and sometimes even their perspective to help students take the next step.
Sometimes best practice looks like a carefully planned lesson. Sometimes it looks like sitting on the floor.

Either way, it’s about meeting students where they are and helping them get where they need to go.
