8th grade parent information sessions
Today, some of our 8th grade Gifted and Talented students traveled to Trinity University to participate in the Model U.N! Students began their work in October when they were each assigned a country and given the task of researching the country itself and the country's position on 2 main topics of debate: the death penalty and weapons in space. Students were placed in committees and engaged in discussion and debates with other students from all across San Antonio and the surrounding area. We are so proud of the effort each of our students have shown over the past few months of preparation, which culminated in Excellence Awards for many of our representatives!

Earlier this week, Ms. Economidis gave our school nurse, Marsha Mudge, a quilt made from T-shirts. The staff at Dobie donated the shirts. Barbara Gang, who taught at Dobie from 2022 to 2024, made the quilt. Nurse Mudge, who has been fighting stage 4 metastatic breast cancer since May 2018, will be able to wrap herself in all our love and prayers during her chemotherapy treatments or anytime she needs a virtual hug from her Dobie family.

Today was a real treat at Dobie! First, our phenomenal staff was surprised with a Treat Trolley filled with delicious items donated by Dobie families as well as goodie bags courtesy of NJHS. Thank you to everyone who helped put a smile on their faces! Our second treat was an appearance by the one and only Santa Claus who visited our ALE classrooms, both of which are on the nice list 😀 Happy Holidays!

For 7th grade art mid-terms, Mrs. Ramirez gave students the task of scaling up and designing a sneaker of their choice from a grid reference. Students could create their own unique design or recreate an existing design. Our 7th graders were VERY successful using the grids and many students said it helped them focus and break their drawing down into smaller, more manageable sections.

This past Friday, students from FCA (Fellowship of Christian Athletes) wrote holiday cards to seniors in our community. They were delivered to the memory care residents at the Brooks of Cibolo who were very appreciative.

Students in Ms. Morales' and Ms. Economidis' Personal Leadership and Development classes are wrapping up the semesters showcasing all they have learned this year with Passion Projects. Each student got to pick a topic that they were passionate about to teach the class. Students chose a wide variety of topics yet were all still able to put together a professional presentation to present in class.

The National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) and Student Council (StuCo) worked together to donate to the Randolph Area Christian Assistance Program (RACAP) for our annual food drive. We collected over 1,000 items! Ms. Springfield's class won first place with 450 cans. Ms. Economidis' class came in second with 214 items, and Coach Castillo's class was third with 181. The 7th grade class won overall and collected more donations than the 8th grade. Great job giving back, Cougars!

Here are some of the things students were able to try: - High wire electrical repairs - Veterinary services - Welding - Medical (including knee surgery!) - Culinary arts - Roadside assistance - Underground drilling - And many more!
