Grateful to be serving a Military Community that provides unique expereinces for our students.

The TX-82 Cadet Corps hosted SGT (ret) Brian Jergens during 1st and 2nd periods yesterday. SGT Jergens served in the US Army from 2007 to 2013 as a 68W – Combat Medic. His duty locations included Fort Myer and Fort Riley prior to his deployment to Afghanistan in 2011. While deployed in support of OPERATION ENDURING FREEDOM, SGT Jergens was severely injured during a convoy operation when the HUMVEE he was operating was destroyed by an IED. He was medically evacuated back to the United States where he spent 2 years recovering from his injuries before he was medically retired. Prior to his retirement, he was awarded the Purple Heart. He took a moment and graciously shared his story with JROTC cadets during 1st and 2nd periods on what he experienced through recovery, rehabilitation, therapy, and peer support to regain his independence. A great story of survival and resilience!

SGT (ret) Jergens is the son of Sergeant Major (ret) Brian and Marilyn Jergens, who are both current and former employees of Samuel Clemens High School.
